1935 Littlestown High School Graduate

Valedictorian of her class, Honor Roll every semester, participated in chorus, basketball, and the school operetta. 

1940 graduate of Western Maryland College (Now McDaniel)

Major English and Music, Minor History, Certified to teach all three subjects.

Work

1961 Began teaching at Littlestown Area School District

  • Taught World Cultures
  • Directed the Chorus
  • Dean of Girls
  • Chaired Social Studies Department for 30 years
  • Developed Ethics class which was used as a model for other districts
  • Wrote the first Federal technology grant which provided 20 tvs and VCR’s which was innovative technology at that time

Volunteering/Community Service

  • Coordinated Voice of Democracy Contest
  • Hosted National Honor Society Teas
  • Implemented National Social Studies Olympiad for District
  • Chaired Bolt Booster Club Circle Drive
  • Littlestown Alumni Association Board
  • Donated the sound system at Memorial Field in honor of her husband, Col. Edwin W. Elder
  • Littlestown Civil Air Patrol during WWII
